Help Us Help Wash
Art By Wash is dedicated to showcasing the original works of the self-taught and wrongfully convicted artist, Fulton Leroy Washington a.k.a. Mr. Wash, and supporting Criminal Justice Reform.
These unique images, created while the artist was incarcerated serving a life without parole sentence for a crime he did not commit, are titled the "Incaptivity" series.
"Incaptivity" images depict human emotions, triumphs, and sufferings of the artist, fellow inmates, their families, and will be offered as various products on this site. A portion from the sales of these Art By Wash products will go to supporting criminal justice reform. We seek an unbiased judicial system and the betterment of society as a whole.

CHANGE IN OUR MISSION STATEMENT NOW THAT MR. WASH HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM PRISON
Help Us Help Wash, HUHW Started out as a movement headed by Beverly Washington and the late professor and defense attorney, Karen R. Smith. The goal was to bring public and judicial attention to the wrongful conviction of artist Fulton Leroy Washington, also known as Mr. Wash. The HUHW supporters were joined by numerous artists to raise public support and money for the legal defense of Mr. Wash. The first public fund-raising events were held through the "ART IN THE GARDEN" art shows featuring oil paintings and portraits created by Mr. Wash and the supporting artist. The "ART IN THE GARDEN" art shows found public recognition through "Graphic's 2000 Magazine"; the Compton Cable Television weekly article-Local Events "ART IN THE GARDEN"; The Los Angeles Sentinel News Paper; and numerous other public publications independently featuring the art creations of Mr. Wash. Help Us Help Wash 501c3 is now advancing forward as a public service, raising funds to help Mr. Wash reach the public with his unique way of sharing and using art as a way of communication and diversion from entering the Criminal Justice System.
HUHW, at this time, seeks to help raise the funds to erect the “Art By Wash Studio and Community Center” that will be located in Compton, California. While we continue to work with established innocence projects and organizations that investigate and litigate wrongful convictions of factual innocence cases and sentences that originated in California, HUHW through this site and public fund raising events will raise money and donations through the sales and reproduction of original art, prints, and products created by Mr. Wash and the supporting artist at Art By Wash to provide up to six months of rent free housing to qualifying inmates returning home from incarceration . A portion of the money raised from the sales of art and products of each contributing artist will be donated back to the artist and into a fund to support the legal defenses of selected state or federal non-DNA cases that originated out of the state of California. Our Mission Is to divert incarceration of the youth with meaningful art practice and bridge the gap for those inmates returning by creating a safe workspace to continue their creative ideas and art practice. While at the same time targeting troubled youth and introducing art as a way of communication and civic productivity that prevents incarceration. HUHW will raise the capital necessary to shed a light on wrongful convictions and sentences and cover the expenses of a private investigation, legal representation, and clinical support to help the targeted communities and correct those wrongful convictions and sentences.
HUHW will advance forward working out of the Art by Wash Community Center seeking to improve the community and livelihood of the selected profiled cases Nation Wide that are being represented by our teamed staff. Under both titles, HUHW and ABW, our mission is to heal the community, sponsor and participate in public and private fundraising events raising donations and selling the art, products, and creations of the supporting artist to raise the necessary funds to support victims of injustice. We here at HUHW welcome you to help us right the wrongs of the wrongfully convicted and continue spreading the word of unjust convictions and imprisonments so that help can be rendered. HUHW cannot give up the fight or the hope that one day there will be fair investigations, judicial charging and administering of punishments. Please pledge your support for us and click on the Gift and Donations Button on the donations page and offer your pledge. No amount of money or legal support is too little nor too big.
